Teppanyaki Chinatown
About This Spot
Stepping into Teppanyaki Chinatown on George Street feels like slipping into an intimate, vibrant corner of Japan right in the heart of Manchester. The pace here is unhurried yet alive, where the sizzle and hiss of the grill meld with soft chatter and the rhythmic dance of knives and spatulas. This is a space where culinary craft unfolds with quiet excitement, inviting guests to settle in and experience the captivating interplay between chef and flame.
The atmosphere strikes a balance between warmth and a subtle theatricality. Seating circles the teppanyaki grill, fostering a shared moment that is both personal and communal. Diners find themselves drawn not only by the allure of the food but by the unfolding story of its creation — fresh ingredients turned into vibrant morsels before their eyes. This is a place where the chemistry between diners and chefs adds a human heartbeat to the meal, making each visit feel uniquely alive.
As aromas of garlic, soy, and delicate smoke fill the air, the menu echoes this balance of tradition and flair. From the crisp texture of spring rolls to the delicate slices of salmon sashimi, each bite carries a gentle reminder that precision and care shape every dish. Classic dishes like chicken okonomiyaki and wok-tossed egg fried rice are given fresh life on the hotplate, while the sushi and nigiri offer quiet moments of freshness amidst the sizzling excitement. It’s a rhythm that allows the experience to flow naturally — a shared meal that unfolds through taste, conversation, and the simple joy of watching each course come alive.
Guests often leave with a sense of having taken part in something more than dinner — a moment of connection, whether with the chef’s easy friendliness or the shared delight around the table. This is not about rushing through a meal but savoring the layers of flavor and camaraderie. Teppanyaki Chinatown invites those curious about Japanese culture and cuisine to gather, watch, taste, and find joy in the rhythms of a well-crafted teppanyaki experience.

Our first time in a teppanyaki restaurant and we loved it! Food was deliciously cooked to perfection and our own personal chef was so friendly and made us feel at ease, the front of house and waiter were very welcoming, will be definitely be back for a 2nd visit. Thank you

Is our 1st time here and the food is amazing, we order the set menu so we can taste of everything. Service is superb, environment is welcoming and friendly. A chef preparing our food in front of us, amazing presentation. Definitely will come back again and definitely recommended.

It was a very lovely lunch experience. We shared the Samurai and ordered 2 appetisers. It was very filling for two people. Very rich and full of flavour. The chef was so nice, had a lovely conversation with him about where he’s from

Great experience with the Chef cooking the food in front of you! I went for the Imperial menu (£55). Great variety of choice and very professional staff. #Chef #Food #Experience #Menu #Variety #Staff

Lovely food. Great chef. I feel you pay for experience over food. £230. Food a little bland and not a lot of it. Terrible music, should be authentic Japanese music! Chef was good, doesn't really say much though.

We came here on a work night out. Firstly it was great that they could accommodate 31 people. That's a big positive. However, we didn't get any of the "show" cooking that you get in other Teppanyaki restaurants, and that was a bit disappointing. Whilst the food was ok, it wasn't anything special to write home about. The portions were massive, especially the sea food, but it wasn't really out of this world, and I don't think it was worth the £55 per head for the Imperial, which over half of us had. That said, the cost of food is high everywhere these days; it's a sign of the times. Would I come back? Probably not, but that's because there are so many other places to try, and nothing to do with the quality and standard of the food and service. It just didn't have that wow factor.

Had a great time at this teppanyaki restaurant. The food was fantastic - very fresh and really tasty. Loved watching the chefs cook everything right in front of us on the hot griddle - it’s a great dinner and a show. Service was great too - friendly and quick. If you’re after fresh, delicious food and a fun night out, I'd recommend this place. Would definitely go back.
